Q&A: Family permit for wife with Senegalese citizenship.

by Red Square London Solicitors

Meenu – immigration solicitor from Red Square London will answer our weekly question.

The question?

I’m a dutch citizen (EEA citizen) living and working in the UK. I would like a family permit for my wife (Senegalese citizen) and my daughter (Dutch nationality) living in Senegal with her mother. What is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to have them here with me?

The answer:

Since your daughter has Dutch nationality already she will have no issues arriving to the UK on her Dutch passport. Your wife however, will have to apply for something which is called an EEA Family Permit. She will qualify for this permit if you are exercising your treaty rights in the UK. This means that you must be working, looking for work, self-employed, studying or self-sufficient if you have been in the UK for over 3 months. You will need to provide evidence of this for her application. This is the quickest and cheapest way, and really the only way for your wife to come to the UK to join you.
